Eight persons were crushed to death after a slab of an under-construction gate fell on the truck in which they were travelling in Bilimora town in Gandevi tehsil of Navsari district today, police said.
Another person was severely injured.
The truck hit the arch of the under-construction gate at Swarg Residency Society here and a big chunk of a slab fell on it, said police sub-inspector M V Gamit.
The truck was carrying cement for the construction of the gate. While exiting under it, hydraulic trolley of the truck remained upright due to some technical glitch, and hit the slab.
Six labourers, the truck-driver and a cleaner were killed on the spot, while another labourer was injured, Gamit said.
