A roof slab of Nacional Club, one of the oldest club buildings in Goa, fell today but there was no report of any casualty, a fire official said.

Nobody was present in the building as it was closed, today being a Sunday. However, three shops located on the ground floor of the one-storey building suffered damage, the official said.

"There was no fatality as the shops were closed, he said.

The Nacional Club, established almost a century back, is located on a busy street.

"The incident happened at around 3.30 PM when the slab fell," club president Tony Dias, who was on the spot when authorities were clearing the debris, said.

"It is one of the most important buildings with heritage value. We will seek help of the state government to reconstruct it," Dias added.
