Noted journalist Harish Khare has been appointed Editor in Chief of the Chandigarh-based 'The Tribune' group of newspapers.

Khare, who was Media Adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh between 2009 and 2012 when he resigned, is expected to take up his new assignment on June one, sources in the newspaper said.

He will succeed Raj Chengappa, who is joining 'India Today' publishing group as Group Editorial Director in Delhi next month. Chengappa was with The Tribune from 2010.

Khare had earlier worked with Hindustan Times and Times of India and later with The Hindu in Delhi as its National Bureau Chief.
