Heatwave affects normal life across Odisha

The prevailing heatwave today disrupted normal life in Odisha as the mercury level scaled above 40 degrees Celsius in at least ten of the state's 30 districts.

While the coal town of Talcher recorded the highest temperature of the day in the state at 43.2 degrees Celsius, temperatures remained at 40 degrees and above in ten other places.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 39 degrees Celsius. Though there was a drop in temperature by 1.7 degrees Celsius due to rainfall last evening, the relative humidity mounted to 92 per cent causing much unease.

The places which recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius were Angul at 43.1 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda 42.2 degrees Celsius, Keonjhargarh 40.1 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur 40.6 degrees Celsius, Sundergarh 41.5 degrees Celsius, Hirakud 41.1 degrees Celsius, Bhawanipatna 40.7 degrees Celsius, Balangir 41.5 degrees Celsius, Titlagarh 41.0 degrees Celsius and Malkangiri 40.8 degrees Celsius, according to a release issued by the MeT department.
 

The MeT office release also forecast rain or thundershowers at one or two places in coastal and interior Odisha for a week till April 28.
