Amid a controversy over a letter purportedly written by Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Congress today denied that the High Command has received any such communication.
"It has been reported that sources close to high command had received the letter. I want to make it very clear that the high command has not received any such letter," Mukul Wasnik, AICC General secretary in charge of Kerala, told reporters here.
There is no need to go after unnecessary controversies, he said.
The content of the letter allegedly written by Chennithala to party high command targeting Chandy and KPCC President V M Sudheeran for the poor performance of UDF in the recent civic polls had triggered a row after it was reported in the media.
The state Home Minister had however maintained that he had not sent such a letter and it was a concocted one.
Though KPCC accepted the denial of Chennithala, it has asked the government to order a comprehensive probe into the source of the letter.
The Home Minister has cancelled all official programmes till December 28 as he will be leaving on a foreign tour.
Meanwhile, two factions of the Congress in Kerala took potshots at each other today on the development.
Transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, a close confidant of Chandy, told a press meet that party leaders should ensure that complaints are aired in party fora only.
"If anybody has any complaints, it should be raised in the party forum only and settled. Sensitive statements should be avoided," Radhakrishnan told reporters at Kottayam.
Reacting to this 'I' group leader Joseph Vazhakkan, who is close to Chennithala, said calling a press meet to talk about party discipline was "not right". He expressed doubts about a conspiracy angle behind the purported letter.
