In a major haul, police have seized more than 2000 cartons of illicit liquor worth over Rs one crore after raiding three godowns.
Acting on a tip off, police raided three godowns and seven properties in Lohiya Nagar belonging to jailed liquor mafia Shehzad and seized more than 2000 cartons of illicit liquor, SP Pravin Ranjan said.
The smugglers opened fire at the police party at one of the godowns to which they retaliated forcing them to flee the spot, the SP said.
A truck full of liquor cartons, two tractors and a car has been seized by the police in the raids, he said.
The raids were conducted as part of a special drive against illicit liquor in the state by the police.
