Tamil Nadu government today assured the Madras High Court that the Investigating Officer (IO) probing a gang rape case in which a CBI investigtion has been sought against all police personnel allegedly involved would appear before the court.

The Court recorded the submission of Government Pleader S T S Moorthy that the IO of All Women Police Station, Sivaganga, would appear before it in the case in which a CBI probe has been sought against all police personnel, including senior police officers who are allegedly involved in it.

The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, before which a PIL by one T Vincent came up, recorded the submission and posted the matter for further hearing to November 3.

The petitioner referred to a police complaint of one S Selvi of Coimbatore against 'atrocities' on her 17-year-old niece by various persons, including her father and brother and said a cursory perusal of the FIR showed that police had not registered the complaint as preferred by the victim "but tailored it suitable to their dubious intentions."

The deposition by the girl before the Judicial Magistrate, Karaikudi, proved that she had been illegally trafficked, drugged, raped and sexually exploited by many men, including police officials, he said, adding that police had failed to take action against all the perpetrors named.

Vincent alleged that police had forced Selvi to file a complaint, charging only the father and brother with raping the girl and had left out all others.

He submitted that the girl had undergone forced abortion many times.

He also alleged that police had hushed up the entire version of the girl to protect some senior police officers.

Vincent submitted that the girl has now become addicted to drugs and her family members, including her father and brother had forced her into the flesh trade due to the easy lure of getting money from it.

He further alleged that the girl's deposition before the JM included one episode where she alleged she was taken to a five star hotel in Madurai by police officials where she was drugged and reportedly gang raped.
