The Madras High Court bench today dismissed a plea for CBI probe into the abetment charges against O Raja, brother of Tamil Nadu Minister O Pannerselvam and four others, in a case of suicide by a Dalit.

Justice S Nagamuthu dismissed the plea by Subburaj, father of the Dalit Thenkarai S Nagamuthu, after the Periyakulam DSP submitted that the investigation had been completed and charge sheet filed against O Raja and others in the trial court.

Thenkarai, a Dalit priest at a temple in Theni district, committed suicide in 2012 leaving a note which stated that Raja and others had humiliated him and prevented him from entering the temple. He said they were responsible for his suicide.

Subburaj moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the case.

P Rathinam, counsel for the petitioner insisted that the CBI should probe the case as the state police might not conduct an impartial investigation since the brother of the main accused is a minister.

The court dismissed the plea after Government advocate assured a fair investigation.
