Anti-mafia investigators in Italy today seized assets worth 487 million USD including quarries, villas and stores from a businessman suspected of links to the Sicilian Cosa Nostra, the police said.
Stefano Parra, 47, was arrested in 2000 and is also accused of giving five kilos of explosives and fuses to his father-in-law to blow up a quarry to hide dead bodies.
"The assets seized have been valued at 360 million euros," the anti-mafia police said in a statement.
Palermo-based Parra is accused of "mafia association" and of fraud linked to his management of the quarries and to public contracts.
The assets included three quarries, eight businesses, 26 land parcels, 12 bank accounts, four villas, as well as several stores.
Italian police last year seized assets worth 1.3 billion euros from a Sicilian businessman in the renewable energy sector in the biggest ever seizure of mafia-linked assets.
The assets of Vito Nicastri included 43 wind and solar energy companies, 98 properties and 66 bank accounts.
