The Karaikal Agriculturists Welfare Association has decided to observe a total bandh in Karaikal on March 28 to register its protest against the Karnataka government's "unilateral move" to construct a check dam across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu.
PCC president A V Subramanian told reporters here today that Karaikal relying on Cauvery water as it is in the delta limits would face serious impact if the dam plan of Karaikal was executed.
Extending the support of the Congress to the bandh planned by the ryots outfit in Karaikal, Subramanian said the move of Karnataka was "utterly against the Cauvery River Water Tribunal's verdict" and hence would be injurious to the farm sector.
