A court here today sentenced a 24-year-old man to undergo life imprisonment for fatally hitting a man following a quarrel over the issue of occupying a seat in a bus four years ago.

District and Sessions Judge R Nakeeran held Nishat guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs 2,000.

According to prosecution, Nishant, aged 20 years then, had entered into a quarrel with Balakrishnan (40) for occupying a seat in the bus at Manjanakorai on June 1, 2012.

The quarrel led to fisticuff and both were asked to get down from the bus.
