A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court bench here seeking removal of eateries serving beef and other non-vegetarian food and located on properties of the famous hill shrine of Lord Muruga at Palani.
A bench, comprising Justices S.Manikumar and C T Selvam, posted the PIL, filed by a Hindu outfit, for hearing tomorrow.
Petitioner K.Gopinath, founder-President of the outfit, alleged that persons belonging to Islam and other religions were running shops which offered beef and other non-vegetarian food, insulting the religious faith of devotees thronging the temple and creating disharmony.
Devotees were feeling uncomfortable to pass by the shops housed in the temple property, he said.
The temple Joint Commissioner had allowed people belonging to other religions to occupy the temple land and shops, outraging the religious faith of Hindus, he contended.
Officials should ensure that people belonging to other religions did not occupy temple shopsand create discomfort for the devotees, he prayed.
