A 25-year-old man died in what police claimed during his bid to escape from their jeep when he was being taken to police station today.
The incident occurred in wee hours near Limbe Jalgaon village when police were bringing Rahul Gaikwad, arrested on the charge of theft of a vehicle, here in their jeep.
According to a police official, Gaikwad tried to flee and in the process fell down and died.
However, Rahul's father Arjun Gaikwad alleged his son had been thrashed in police station and again in front of him.
He demanded a case of murder be registered against two police personnel.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Khushalchand Baheti said five policemen have been suspended.
