A case was registered against the manager of a cowshed at Jaitpura village in Ambala district of Haryana after seven cows died there under mysterious circumstances two days ago, police said.

The manager and one more person working at the cowshed were booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act City, they said.

SP, Ambala, Abhishek Jorwal said the Ambala Police had received a complaint from the villagers in this regard.

He said that investigations were underway.

Three persons had been running the cowshed for the last eight months, the police quoted a zila parishad, who is also a resident of the same village, as having said.

He said that the villagers had been giving donations to the cowshed for the purchase of fodder for the bovines.

But there was no proper arrangement of fodder and sheds available there, he alleged.

Some of the villagers alleged that seven cows had died on Wednesday night due to starvation while a few were sick.
