"The government did not pay us salary for the last six months as decided in March this year. We are also demanding to change new pattern of examination," Prahlad Jhakar, President of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors, said.

"We undertook peaceful agitations to press for our demands but the government did not pay attention forcing us to go on indefinite mass leave," he said.

The patients have suffered in hospitals attached to government medical colleges of Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Bikaner where medical services were paralysed.

However, the hospital authorities claimed that alternate arrangements were made to attend outdoor and hospitalised patients.

Superintendent of SMS hospital, Jaipur, Dr Virendra Singh said that alternate arrangements were in place and requisition for medical officers would be forwarded to the state medical department, if necessary.
