Medium sugar edges lower on poor offtake

Medium sugar prices moved down at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to lacklustre retail as well as upcountry buying amid continued unwinding from millers.

Meanwhile, small sugar variety finished stable.

Medium sugar (S-30) declined by Rs 10/12 per quintal to Rs 2,732/2,930 from last weekend's closing level of Rs 2,742/2,942.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,732/2,930 (Rs 2,742/2,942.

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,650/2,750 (Rs 2,650/2,750).
