Medium sugar prices surged at the Vashi wholesale market here today owing to rising demand from stockists and retailers.
However, small sugar eased due to lower offtake from stockists and bulk consumers.
Medium sugar (M-30) rose by 8/10 per quintal to Rs 3,290/3,392 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 3,282/3,382.
Small sugar (S-30) fell by Rs 7/2 per quintal to Rs 3,205/3,300 from overnight closing level of Rs 3,212/3,302.
Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:
Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,205/3,300 (Rs 3,212/3,302).
Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,290/3,392 (Rs 3,282/3,382).
