Mercury soars in Punjab, Haryana

Mercury today soared by few notches above normal in Punjab and Haryana even as few places in the region were lashed by rain.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 34.2 deg C, even though much-needed rains lashed the city in the evening, providing relief to people from humid conditions, Met department said here.

Among other places in Haryana, Ambala and Bhiwani recorded a maximum of 35.2 deg C and 33.2 deg C respectively.

Narnaul and Karnal received rainfall of 26 mm and 8.4 mm while the maximum temperature settled at 32 deg C and 32.8 deg C respectively.

Hisar recorded maximum at 33.2 deg C.
 

In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high of 32.8 deg C, 35.2 deg C and 35 deg C respectively, up by two notches above normal.

The Met department in its forecast said light to moderate rains may occur at a few places in Punjab and Haryana.
