The police have registered a case against a man for pretending to be a member of parliament, using a forged seal and amber light on his car, for the past one and half years.

The accused was identified as Virendra P Shinde, resident of Uttam Nagar here.

A case for forgery under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him as he was found to have fabricated various official documents pertaining to the MP, said Ambad police station's in-charge Dinesh Bardekar.

Shinde is currently absconding. His Toyota SUV, which had official seal and official amber light on the top, has been seized by the police.

Police said he told people that he was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha.
