Oommen Chandy turns 71

Senior Congress leader and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy turned 71 today.

Chandy, who offered prayers at a church here with family members on the occasion, later attended various scheduled official meetings at the secretariat.

He attended was the 'National Re-dedication Day' here to observe the 30th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Fondly called 'OC' by his followers, Chandy is one of the popular Chief Ministers of the state.

This is his second stint as Chief Minister.

He had assumed charge for the first time after senior leader A K Antony resigned from the post in 2004, following Congress' defeat in the Lok Sabha polls that year.
 

He later became the Opposition leader in the State Assembly in 2006 when the LDF was in power.
