In a horrific incident, a man allegedly bit off a portion of a 30-year-old woman's ear after she refused to have sex with him, police said today.
The woman, who was living alone after being deserted by her husband five years ago in Ramanathapuram in the city, had developed an illicit relationship with the accused, Mariyadas (27), police said.
An enraged Mariyadas, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, bit off her ear around midnight last night when she refused to have sex with him, police said.
The accused escaped after spitting out the portion of the ear.
Hearing her screams, her neighbours admitted her to the Government hospital here, where doctors performed an operation, they said.
Mariyadas was later taken into custody for interrogation, police said.
