A mentally disturbed man killed an 8-year-old physically challenged boy by slitting his throat at Kallat in Kasargod district today, police said.
Fahad was on his way to school with his sister and some other students when the 32-year-old man accosted them with a knife, police said.
While the other children fled, Fahad could not move fast enough and was fatally stabbed by the man who also pushed aside his sister when she tried to save him, they said.
People nearby rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of children and caught hold of the man after a chase.
A police team headed by Kanhangad Deputy Superintendent of Police Harischandra Naik reached the spot and arrested him.
