A 16-year-old girl has allegedly committed suicide by immolating herself after a man reportedly attempted rape on her in the district, police said today.
The girl had gone to relieve outside the home last night when the accused identified as Jagveer Singh allegedly caught and attempted rape on her, Ucchain Police Station SHO Bane Singh said.
She managed to free herself and rushed inside the house.
Moments later, she poured some inflammable and set herself on fire, the SHO said.
The accused, who is a relative of the victim's neighbour, is absconding and search is on to nab him, police said.
The SHO added that the body was handed over to family members after post-mortem by a medical board.
