A PIL in the Delhi High Court has alleged corruption in the collection of toll tax from commercial vehicles entering the national capital and has sought a court-monitored probe into the issue.

The petition by an association of commercial vehicle drivers has claimed that the three municipal corporations are collecting the toll through a private company which is not following the bye laws for collection of the tax.

The matter came up for hearing before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar which listed the matter for November 1.

The petitioner has sought a court-monitored inquiry into the issue and action against those found responsible for alleged corruption in toll tax collection.

According to the plea, the contract for collection of toll tax was granted to the private company for nine months for a sum of Rs 480 crore.

Despite expiry of the contract period, toll tax continues to be collected, it has alleged.
