The central youth wing of the Shurhozelie Liezietsu faction of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) today launched an indefinite sit-in-protest outside the Nagaland secretariat demanding immediate ruling of the state Assembly Speaker on three issues.

The faction president and former chief minister Liezietsu also joined the sit-in-protest.

Liezietsu said consequent upon the dismissal of his government on July 19 last, his party had moved for disqualification of the 36 NPF MLAs and "appointment" of NPF chief whip and NPF legislature party leader.

The Speaker Imtiwapang Aier was yet to respond to any of the issues, he said.

Until the Speaker delivered his judgement on the three issues, the peaceful protest would continue, he said.

After swearing in, Chief Minister T R Zeliang had said on July 19 that he would continue to remain NPF leader of the House. Zeliang is also the chief whip of NPF.

In the 60-member house, Zeliang has the support of 36 NPF legislators, seven Independents and four BJP MLAS. The Liezietsu camp has 11 legislators and one Independent. One seat remains vacant.
