State-owned PowerGrid has emerged as the lowest bidder for power transmission project Eastern Region System Strengthening Scheme XXI in Bihar.

The tariff-based bidding was conducted by the Rural Electrification Corporation's arm -- REC Transmission Projects Company -- an industry source said, adding that PowerGrid quoted the lowest rate.

The competitive bidding was aimed at strengthening the inter-state transmission system.

The project ERSS XXI, the source said, involves establishment of three new 400 kv sub-stations and associated 400 kv transmission lines in Bihar.

The new sub-stations are to be established in Sitamarhi, Chandauti and Saharsa in Bihar, the source added.

PowerGrid is a central power transmission utility.
