Members of Odisha Contract Teachers' Association (OCTA) today demonstrated in front of the Assembly here in protest against the state government's failure to reappoint 3,760 contractual teachers in different high schools by the middle of this month despite assurances.
The agitation came a day after the contractual teachers gheraoed District Education Offices (DEOs) across the state.
"We had suspended the agitation on December 2 after the School and Mass Education minister assured us to reappoint the retrenched teachers by December second. However, the government failed to meet the deadline," said an agitating teacher.

The association also announced that the teachers would launch a hunger strike from tomorrow.
The state government had cancelled service of nearly 3,760 contractual teachers appointed after June 11 this year in view of a case in the Orissa High Court.
School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra had assured that a decision with regard to reappointment of retrenched contract teachers would be taken by the second week of December to sort out the issue.
As the state government was yet to take a decision with regard to reappointment of contractual teachers, the association decided to intensify its stir, an association spokesman said.
