An elderly man was killed when he was hit by a speeding truck in Ghatampur area here, leading to protests by locals.
60-year-old Shivbalak, a resident of Fatehpur, was crossing the road when he was hit by the truck coming from Musanagar yesterday. He died on the spot, police said today.
Angry over the incident, locals in the area blocked the roads and demanded compensation for the deceased's family.
Movement of vehicles was restored only after police gave them assurance that they will take up the matter with the local adminstration.
Search for the truck's driver is on, police said.
In another incident, a youth was seriously injured after he was hit by a speeding truck at Ramadevi market in Chakori area yesterday.
29-year-old Sonu was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition, police said, adding, investigations are on.
