In a case of matricide, a 40-year-old man, who was surmounted by heavy debts killed his mother and committed suicide today at suburban Veerappanchatram, police said.
Arumugham, a car broker, borrowed huge sums and could not repay, decided to kill his 75-year-old mother, Kaliammal who was dependent on him, before taking the extreme step.
When his wife and daughter were away this afternoon, he slit her throat with a knife and later committed suicide by hanging inside the house, police said.
