Sugar prices shot up by Rs 80 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on pick-up in demand from bulk consumers and retailers amidst fall in supplies from mills.
Marketmen said apart from increased demand from bulk consumers and retailers, fall in supplies from mills led to a rise in the sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices settled higher by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,780-3,050 and Rs 2,770-3,030 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also edged up by Rs 70 each to Rs 2,750-2,910 and Rs 2,740-2,880 per qunital.
In millgate section, government and co-operative mills prices also recorded a sharp rise of up to Rs 80 per quintal.
Sugar Ramala, Anupshar, Baghpat, Morna, Sakoti and Nazibabad quoted higher at Rs 2,780, Rs 2,750, Rs 2,790, Rs 2,800, Rs 2,780 and Rs 2,770 per quintal.
Private mills also showed a rise up to Rs 60 per quintal and prices of Dhampur, Mawana, Budhana and Modinagar quoted at Rs 2,790, Rs 2,820, Rs 2,790, Rs 2,795 per quintal.
