Next to Salem, the home guards of Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu will sport white shirt and khakhi pants, while on traffic duty, like in police department.
Superintendent of Police, M Sudhakar today handed over the uniform to 278 Home Guard personnel of the district, with more women engaged in traffic duty, an official release said here.
The district comprises three units -Thudiyalur, Pollachi and Mettupalayam and home guards were requisitioned on daily basis on routes during the VIP movement, particularly in summer and flower show seasons to NIlgiris district, besides usual arterial roads, it said.

Usually seen in Khaki uniforms, those home guards on traffic duty will be seen in white and khaki, sponsored by Dr J Rajendran, Assistant Commandant General of Coimbatore Zone, who was also instrumental in initiating the concept last year in Salem, by providing 200 uniforms.
Sudhakar who also inaugurated the in-service training for the Home Guards officers appreciated the District Home Guards for sustaining 90 per cent attendance, the release said.
