Driver stops train after seeing steel pieces on track

An alert driver today stopped the Thanjavur-Karaikal passenger train near the railway station here after noticing some pieces of steel on the track, in what is suspected to be a plan to derail the train, police said.

The driver on seeing the steel pieces, including steel clips, used for fastening the track, stopped the train and removed them and informed the Tiruchirappalli railway control room, they said.

The control room officials informed the Tiruvarur railway police about it, who seized the steel pieces.
