Woman gives birth in toilet; baby dies

In a tragic incident, a woman delivered a baby in a toilet after suddenly developing labour pain but the new-born fell on the floor and died, police said today.

The woman, in advanced stage of pregnancy, had gone to the toilet in her house at Mylampatti, near here, around 1.30 am when she developed labour pain.

Even before she could seek help, the baby was delivered but it fell on the floor, suffering fatal head injury.

Hearing her screams, the woman's husband rushed to the toilet only to find the bleeding duo and rushed them to the government hospital.

However, the just-born baby was declared dead on arrival, police said, adding the woman was undergoing treatment.
