French business process management (BPM) major Teleperformance is planning a mega expansion in India and aims to increase its headcount in the country by 15,000, reaching a workforce of over 100,000 by the end of the year.

Teleperformance currently operates in 15 cities and plans to expand to 20 cities by year-end. It is in the advanced stages of establishing new centres in Lucknow, Raipur, and Jaipur, each with a capacity of more than 1,000 employees.

“We are in the advanced stage of evaluating Lucknow and have already established a centre in Noida, which will be operational in the next two months,” said Anish Mukker, chief executive officer of Teleperformance India in an interaction with Business Standard.

He mentioned that expanding to Tier-II and Tier-III cities gives the company access to talent that is more likely to stay with the company longer compared to the workforce in metro areas.

The company currently employs 90,000 people in India and plans to add a total of 60,000 employees over the next three years, driven by strong growth in the US markets.

“We are committed to growing by 60,000 people over the next three years. That means adding roughly 15,000, 25,000, and 25,000 over the next three years. We hope to reach a headcount of 105,000 by the end of this year, supported by the robust growth we are experiencing in the US market,” Mukker said.

Considered among the top five BPM players globally, the company achieved a revenue of $9 billion in 2023 from clients in 170 countries.

Regarding growth prospects in India, Mukker expected a 4x growth this year compared to the average growth last year, driven by growth in the travel and hospitality segment. However, the company did not provide growth metrics for the previous year in India.

“India is the fastest-growing region for Teleperformance due to the incredible talent available and our strengthening value proposition. Additionally, we are present in all major economies that outsource, leading customers to consider moving operations to India,” Mukker added.

Teleperformance employs around 500,000 people globally and offers services to clients across various sectors such as financial services, travel, hospitality, technology, and retail.

Mukker mentioned that about 90 per cent of generative artificial intelligence development work for global clients is carried out by the company’s workforce in India.
