Q-com platform Zomato levies additional ₹5 fee on cash on delivery orders

Social media users have reported the cash-on-delivery fee going up to ₹20 in some locations, adding another charge for customers who choose to pay for their food orders in cash

Food delivery platform Zomato has begun charging an additional fee of at least ₹5 when customers place orders using the cash on delivery (CoD) mode. According to various social media users, the fee goes as high as ₹20 in some locations, adding to the cost for customers who choose to pay cash.

 

Apart from this new levy, other fees that the company charges customers include delivery fee, platform fee, GST on total items in cart, GST on delivery partner fee, GST on platform fee, and restaurant packing charges.

 

While rival Swiggy has not yet experimented with an additional fee for processing cash on delivery orders, on the quick commerce side, Zepto has been accused of secretly adding up to ₹25 extra for such orders.

 

 

Zomato didn’t immediately issue a statement on the development.

 

In order to increase revenue, Zomato had in March this year increased its platform fee by 19.2 per cent to ₹14.90, from the earlier level of ₹12.50. Based on information available on the company’s mobile application, the platform fee is currently at ₹14.99 (without GST). A platform fee is an additional charge levied by digital platforms, including food delivery apps, to cover operational costs, maintenance, and technology improvements.
