Incorporated in Feb.'60 Balmer Lawrie-Van Leer (formerly Tri-Sure India) was promoted by Balmer Lawrie -- a public sector company -- and American Flange Co US a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Packaging Industries Van Leer the Netherlands. The collaborator has a 29.58% stake in the company. It manufactures drums (inst. cap. : 1.5 mln pa) made from HMHDPE (high-molecular high-density polyethylene) in two capacities -- 20/25 ltr and 200 ltr. The company came out with a public issue in Apr.'94 to manufacture HMHDPE drums and to expand its closure system capacity. The major consumers for the 20/25-ltr drums are lubricant agro-chemical and paint industries; and the major consumers of the 200-ltr drums are the petroleum chemical petrochemical and food-processing industries.BLVL has a technical collaboration with Metal Containers UK. It has a firm selling arrangement with Van Leer for export of 100% of its expanded production of metal closures. The project of Valerrex 200 HMHDPE container plant commenced operations from Jan'96. Project for doubling the capacity of the V-20 range of drums is underway. The company commenced manufacturing of Blow Moulded 200 Liners during the year 1999-2000. Investment in the debottlenecking of Valerex 200 is expected to increase output during 2003-04.
