Godavari Biorefineries opens chemical intermediates plant in Maharashtra

Godavari Biorefineries Ltd, a member of the Somaiya Group and manufacturer of specialty & bio-based chemicals, has inaugurated its new MPO (3 methyl 3 pentene 2 one) plant with 4,000 tonnes per annum capacity at Sakarwadi in Maharashtra.  
 
“The new unit will allow us to offer customised chemicals and solutions for the global markets. It is part of our strategy to meet the growing demand for chemicals manufactured from renewable feedstocks using sustainable practices,” said Samir Somaiya, chairman and managing director, Somaiya Group.
 
Godavari Biorefineries Ltd is a biorefining company producing sugar, biofuels, chemicals, power, compost, waxes, and related products, using sugarcane as the primary feedstock. The company has manufacturing plants at Sameerwadi (Bagalkot, Karnataka) and Sakarwadi (Ahmednagar, Maharashtra).
 
 
The company had recently raised private equity from Mandala Capital, a part of which was for the setting up of the MPO plant.
 
Godavari Biorefineries, which expects Rs 1,200 crores turnover for the year ended March 2016, has been a pioneer in the making of ethanol based chemicals and is now working on the utilisation of biomass to make a wider variety of products.
