Maharashtra finalises policy to promote use of artificial sand in construction

The Maharashtra government has finalised a policy promoting the use of artificial sand for construction activities and issued an official order to this effect, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Tuesday. In a letter to all district collectors, Bawankule directed the immediate implementation of the policy.

The government has delegated powers to approve the artificial sand, or M-Sand (manufactured sand), units to district collectors, who can now sanction up to 100 such units, an increase from the earlier cap of 50.

BJP leader claims film ‘The Taj Story' based on his plea, approaches IB Ministry seeking ban

A BJP leader from Ayodhya has filed a complaint with the I&B Ministry and the CBFC, seeking a ban on the upcoming film ‘The Taj Story' starring Paresh Rawal, claiming that it is based on the subject of a petition he filed in the high court. Rajneesh Singh, a BJP spokesperson from Ayodhya, filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court in October 2022, seeking the opening of 22 locked rooms inside the Taj Mahal, claiming the monument was originally a temple.

Former Telangana Minister Harish Rao's father dies

BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's brother-in-law and former minister T Harish Rao's father T Satyanarayana died in the early hours of Tuesday due to age-related health issues. He was unwell and suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at Harish Rao's residence here, they said. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed grief over the demise of Satyanarayana and recalled his association with him.

Dispute over PM SHRI will not impact governance, says Kerala Minister Anil

Senior CPI leader and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil said on Tuesday that the stalemate within the ruling LDF in Kerala over signing the Centre's PM SHRI school scheme would not affect its governance. He said both the CPI and the CPI(M), the key coalition partners in the LDF, are the ones who uphold the Left policy.

The Left policy would succeed, he said when reporters asked about the ongoing rift between the two Left parties over the state General Education Department's recent signing of the PM SHRI scheme without discussing it in the Cabinet.

Police seal ‘fake' paediatrician's clinic in UP's Bhadohi; FIR lodged

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district have sealed a children's clinic and hospital after its operator was allegedly found treating patients with a fake medical degree, officials said on Tuesday. An FIR was lodged late Monday night against Ramesh Yadav, who ran the Govind Prabha Clinic and Baby Centre in the Abholi area, they said. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Santosh Kumar Chak said a probe was ordered following complaints about the clinic.

Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district braces for heavy rain, holiday for schools

Cyclone Montha intensifies into severe cyclonic storm: Met Department

Cyclonic storm Montha over the westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north to northwestwards with a speed of 17 km per hour in the past six hours and lay centred over the same region by 2:30 am on Tuesday, about 310 km south to southeast of Kakinada, said the India Meteorological Department.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted devotees at the conclusion of the four-day Chhath festival and said it gave a divine glimpse into the country's grand tradition. "Today, the auspicious conclusion of the great festival of Chhath took place with the morning arghya offered to Lord Sun God. During this four-day ritual, we witnessed the divine glimpse of our grand tradition of Chhath Puja," Modi said in a post on X.
