Govt not asking creators to restrict AI content, but to label it: Meity

The government is not seeking to control or restrict online content but rather to ensure transparency by requiring creators to label AI-generated content so that audiences can make informed choices, Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said on Thursday. The government proposed changes to IT rules on Wednesday, mandating the clear labelling of AI-generated content and increasing the accountability of large platforms, such as Facebook and YouTube, for verifying and flagging synthetic information to curb user harm from deepfakes and misinformation. "All that we are asking for is to label the contentYou must put in a label which indicates whether a particular piece of content has been generated synthetically or not. We are not saying don't put it up, or don't do this and that. Whatever you're creating, it's fine. You just say it is synthetically generated. So that once it says it's synthetically generated, then people can make up their minds as to whether it is good, bad, or whatever,

AI talent demand accelerates; job postings rise 11.7% in Sep: Report

With demand for AI skills continuing to grow across India, a report on Wednesday showed that AI-related job postings increased to 11.7 per cent this September from 8.2 per cent in the same month a year ago. In September, 11.7 per cent of Indian job postings explicitly mentioned AI in their job descriptions, up from 10.6 per cent three months earlier and 8.2 per cent a year ago, global hiring platform Indeed said in a report. "India ranks highly against other Indeed markets. Apart from India, only Singapore has a higher share of postings mentioning artificial intelligence. It's clear that many employers across India have gone all-in on artificial intelligence," Indeed's APAC Senior Economist Callam Pickering said. The findings in this report are based on job posting data on the Indeed platform, which tracks real-time hiring activity across India's formal economy. Job posting trends were measured as of September 2025, with comparisons made against both the previous months and ...

Regulation on deepfakes soon, two semicon units operational now: Vaishnaw

The government is going to bring a regulation on deepfakes soon that will take help of technology for efficient implementation, Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, the minister said that chips are key for building AI infrastructure and two semiconductor units, CG Semi and Kaynes, have started production in the country. Vaishnaw said that there are six Ai models getting developed in the country, out of which two will use around 120 billion parameters and will be free from biases like western models have. He said that AI in several cases is being used in a positive way and for fun that must be encouraged, but there is need to save the society from the significant harms which can be caused by using deepfakes where one's voice and face can be presented to give out a message which is absolutely disconnected with the person. "It's your right to make sure that your face and your voice should not be used in a harmful way f

IIIT-Delhi's 'Ratatouille' uses AI to reimagine the science of cooking

What happens when artificial intelligence meets the art of cooking? At IIIT-Delhi, professor Ganesh Bagler has been exploring that intersection for more than a decade, giving birth to what he calls 'computational gastronomy' -- a pioneering field that uses data science and AI to decode and recreate the science of taste. "It all started as a curiosity-driven classroom exercise when I was teaching at IIT Jodhpur," Bagler recalled in an interview with PTI. "We were studying patterns in global cuisines -- Indian, Italian, Mexican -- and I realised that no one really looked at food through the lens of data and computation. That's how the journey began, around 10 years ago. Since then, Bagler's lab at IIIT-Delhi has been at the forefront of blending two seemingly contrasting worlds -- the artistic, cultural side of cooking and the quantitative precision of data science. No one had tried to merge these two domains before, he said. Over the years, Bagler and his team have built structure
