CM Nayab Saini declares 'The Sabarmati Report' tax-free in Haryana

The recently released Hindi film 'The Sabarmati Report', based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, was declared tax-free in Haryana, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini making the announcement after watching the film on Tuesday evening. Chief Minister Saini watched the film with its starcast, presenter Ektaa Kapoor and producer Amul Mohan here. Subsequently, he announced that The Sabarmati Report will be tax-free in the state, thus exempting it from entertainment levy. Other BJP-ruled states Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have already given tax-free status to the film, which hit theatres on November 15. The Sabarmati Report features Vikrant Massey along with Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in key roles. It is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and is produced by Amul Mohan while Ektaa Kapoor is the presenter. As Maharashtra gears up for the state assembly elections on November 20, the Hindi film industry in Mumbai hopes the new government will bring critical reforms for daily wage workers and policies to reduce financial burdens on the sector. In five days, the state will witness an electoral battle between the ruling Mahayuti, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena and the NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi led by the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP). Actor Suresh Oberoi emphasised the importance of voting, referring to it as a national festival. Voting is a national festival, and it is your duty to exercise your voting rights and strengthen the foundation of democracy, the veteran actor told PTI. Popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, who was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Delhi, died on Tuesday night. She was 72. "Sharda Sinha expired at 9.20 pm due to refractory shock as a result of septicemia," an AIIMS official said.
