Court reserves order on cognisance of ED charge sheet against Kejriwal

A Delhi court on Tuesday reserved for June 4 its order on whether to take cognisance of a supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam wherein it has claimed bribes were received even from Punjab businessmen to allow them to invest in liquor trade in the national capital. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed those businessmen from Punjab, also ruled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who did not pay up, were forced out of their ventures in the neighbouring state. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja reserved the order after hearing the arguments advanced by the ED, which claimed it has sufficient evidence to prosecute Kejriwal in the case. The ED has also named AAP as an accused in the charge sheet, the first political party to be booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The federal anti-money laundering agency told the court that Kejriwal, the national convenor of AAP,

Delhi court refuses to summon Kejriwal in defamation case by BJP leader

A Delhi court on Tuesday refused to summon Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a criminal complaint filed by a BJP leader who accused him of defamation for claiming that AAP leaders were approached to join the saffron party in return for cash. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tanya Bamniyal, however, summoned AAP leader Atishi, saying "prima facie" there was sufficient evidence against her in the matter. The judge directed Atishi, a minister in the Kejriwal cabinet, to appear before the court on June 29. BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor had filed a case against Kejriwal and Atishi over poaching allegations made by the two. Atishi accuses Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water since May 1

Water Minister Atishi on Tuesday accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water since May 1 and said the government will be implementing a slew of measures including rationalising supply of water in the national capital. Addressing a press conference, Atishi said many areas in Delhi are grappling with water shortage and appealed to people to use water judiciously. She also warned that if people do not heed this appeal, the government may have to impose challan for excess use of water in coming days. She said that the Delhi government is constantly talking to Haryana about the issue and if it is not resolved in the next couple of days, it may approach the Supreme Court over the matter. "Haryana has stopped release of Delhi's share of water. The water level at Wazirabad was 674.5 feet on May 1. This is the average level that should be maintained. Last year in April, May, and June, the minimum level was maintained at 674.5 feet," Atishi said. Sharing data, the minister said t

As CM Kejriwal seeks bail extension, BJP calls it 'drama' to avoid jail

Senior AAP leader Atishi on Monday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought one-week extension of his interim bail as he needs to undergo tests due to his recent weight loss and rise in ketone level which could be symptoms of some kidney problem or even cancer. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva called this move a "drama" by the chief minister to avoid going back to jail after his interim bail in a money laundering case ends on June 1. "The Supreme Court granted him bail for poll campaigning, which he did without any problem. But now he is suffering from serious diseases. If so, why is he not having those tests done now instead of being busy with campaigning in Punjab?" Sachdeva said. Atishi told PTI Videos that Kejriwal's weight dropped by 7 kg after his arrest on March 21. He has not regained the lost weight and the doctors are unable to find why his weight decreased, the Delhi minister said. "He has undergone some tests and his ketone level is very high. Won't resign because it will set precedent, give BJP free hand: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said he won't resign because it will set a precedent and give the BJP-led Central government a free hand to target opposition chief ministers, including Mamata Banerjee and M K Stalin. And this, he said, is very dangerous for democracy. In an interview to PTI Videos on Wednesday, Kejriwal, who will have to go back to Tihar Jail after his interim bail ends on June 1, said he will approach the court to allow him to fulfil his duties as chief minister of Delhi from prison. The AAP national convener was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to his government's liquor excise policy. The BJP has been demanding his resignation since he has been arrested by the probe agency. Kejriwal and his party have accused the BJP government of framing him, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and other leaders in "fake cases". Man behind metro graffiti targeting Kejriwal arrested, court grants bail

A 33-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly on Wednesday for allegedly scribbling graffiti at Delhi metro stations and inside train coaches targeting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and was later granted bail by a court. A police officer said the accused, who also posted photos of the graffiti on his Instagram account, has been identified as Ankit Goel. Goel, who is a loan manager in a government bank in Bareilly, came to Delhi, wrote the messages and returned to his city, the police officer said, adding that the accused told the police that earlier he was an AAP supporter, but he became disaffected due to the "recent developments" in the party. Maliwal threatens to take Delhi ministers to court for spreading 'lies'

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Monday alleged that Delhi government ministers were "spreading lies" about her and threatened to take them to court. In a post on X, Maliwal refuted allegations by AAP leaders that she had filed the assault complaint against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar at the BJP's behest as a corruption case was registered against her. "Since yesterday, Delhi ministers have been spreading lies that just because a corruption FIR has been lodged against me I am doing this at the behest of BJP "The FIR was registered in 2016 and after that I was appointed the chief of the Delhi Commission for Women twice by both the chief minister and the Lt Governor. "The case is completely fake and the Hon'ble High Court has imposed a stay for the last one-and-a-half years and has also accepted that there was no exchange of money," she said in the Hindi post. Maliwal 'assault' linked to her Rajya Sabha membership, claims BJP

The Delhi BJP on Sunday claimed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wanted to send a senior lawyer to the Rajya Sabha and the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal, an AAP member of the Upper House, was connected to it. The Aam Aadmi Party hit back saying the BJP has "no narrative or vision to offer to the people" and is therefore resorting "to jailing all opposition leaders and making ridiculous allegations every day like this one". The BJP's Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva also asked how AAP came to the conclusion about the saffron party's involvement in the matter when Maliwal was allegedly assaulted at Kejriwal's residence by his close aide Bibhav Kumar. AAP leaders have claimed that Maliwal's allegation is a conspiracy by the BJP to trap Kejriwal. Kejriwal on Sunday claimed the BJP has launched "Operation Jhadoo" to crush AAP as the saffron party sees his party as a "challenge". The BJP's Delhi chief Sachdeva, however, said AAP supremo Kejriwal is enacting a "political drama" over .

It's fight of 'tukde-tukde' vs 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai': BJP's Manoj Tiwari

BJP candidate from the North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat Manoj Tiwari on Sunday said the fight in his constituency is between those who promote "tukde-tukde" (divisive) ideology and those who chant "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". The Congress has pitted Kanhaiya Kumar against the BJP's Tiwari who is seeking a hattrick of victory in North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Campaigning for the BJP in the constituency, Union Minister Giriraj Singh referred to his victory against Kumar in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Bihar's Begusarai. "A person's poster has been pasted in Begusarai who is a member of the tukde-tukde gang and is missing there. He has changed the party now," he said. Kumar contested against Singh in 2019 as a CPI candidate. He later crossed over to the Congress. The former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president was charged with sedition by the Delhi Police over "anti-India slogans" that were allegedly raised on the university campus on February 9, 2016. BJP alleges AAP circulating 'edited' videos to malign Swati Maliwal

The Delhi BJP Saturday accused AAP leaders of circulating "edited" videos to tarnish the image of their own party MP Swati Maliwal, who has accused an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of assaulting her. It is regrettable that "edited" videos are being circulated on social media groups since Friday in an attempt to "defame" Maliwal who is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police arrested Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar who has been accused by Maliwal of assaulting her at the CM's residence on Monday. A couple of videos from the chief minister's residence from the day of the incident have surfaced on social media, one showed Maliwal having an argument with security personnel, while the other showed her walking out of the CM's residence in the Civil Lines.
