G20 events introduced India's capabilities, diversity to world: PM Modi

A host of events held in the last one year under India's G20 presidency had introduced the country's capabilities and diversity to the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday and asserted that the country is becoming a "voice of the Global South". In his address to the nation on the 77th Independence Day, he also said that India's small towns may be small in size or population, but in having hopes and aspirations, they are "not less than anyone". Modi also recalled his visit last year to Bali, where India was handed over the G20 presidency by Indonesia. India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and since then a large number of meetings under different tracks of the bloc have been hosted across the country, which will culminate in the September 9-10 Summit in New Delhi. "Today, India is getting an opportunity to host the world for G20 events. And, in the last one year, the way G20 events have been held in various corners of the country, has introduced the ...

IAS, DANICS probationers deployed for G20 Summit preparations in Delhi

With the G20 Summit less than a month away, more than a dozen newly-inducted civil servants have been deployed in Delhi for round-the-clock patrol to point out gaps in preparations, officials said on Monday. The move will provide valuable field experience to the young probationers -- including two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 13 from Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Island Civil Services (DANICS) cadre officers -- through round-the-clock inspections and submission of reports to the higher-ups, they said. The initiative was taken at the direction of Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena to fill the gaps in preparations by different agencies, said a senior city government officer. The young probationers also accompany the Lt Governor during his daily visits to different locations of the city to monitor the work underway such as road and footpath repairs, horticulture and general cleanliness. "The experience will help them get exposed to the highest levels in the government hierarchy," sai

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has approved the Delhi Police's traffic plan for the G20 Summit that will entail reopening a carriageway at the arrival zone of IGI Airport Terminal 3 which was closed by the airport operator a few months ago. The closure of the third carriageway, the farthest away from the terminal-3 building, triggered a tug of war between Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) and the police, which said the airport operator's action was "against the rules". In view of the G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10, the Delhi Police presented a traffic plan in a meeting with BCAS on Wednesday. According to the traffic plan, the first and second carriageways will be dedicated to VIPs and VIP pass holders respectively and the third carriageway would receive verified commercial vehicles and private vehicles carrying physically challenged, disabled and elderly people, pregnant women and children. Important roads, hotels linked to G20 meet being revamped: Raj Niwas

Sixty one important roads and twenty-three hotels associated with the G20 summit are being monitored by Delhi LG VK Saxena for their upkeep and revamp, Raj Niwas said on Monday. The recent rains and flooding had slowed down the progress of work and also caused substantial damage to revamp, especially in the central district along Ring Road/Yamuna and the Samadhi Complex, officials said. This prompted the LG to take stock of the situation afresh and ensure targeted efforts by ensuring inter and intra-agency coordination. Several areas of the city were flooded as the water levels of the Yamuna rose following heavy rainfall and the release of water from Hathnikund barrage. The flooding had led to the closure of several key stretches including Outer Ring Road and Vikas Marg. "Sixty one important roads along with the venue outside ITPO and 23 hotels, associated with the forthcoming Summit, spread over seven districts in the capital, are being monitored by the LG for their upkeep, spruc
