Officials indicate that March collection on the way to cross Rs 1 trillion
Previously in April and October, the collections had surpassed this milestone
The Centre needs Rs 87,000 crore in January, February and March at least to recoup this shortfall
The total GST target for FY19 is pegged at Rs 12.5 trillion
Stability at this level in the remaining part of 2018-19 key for fiscal discipline
This has brought down the average monthly GST collection in 2018-19 marginally, from Rs 967 billion (April - August) to Rs 963 billion (April - September)
The apportionment would help improve indirect tax position of both the Centre and states
Of the total collection, Central GST (CGST) stood at Rs 158.66 billion
A total of 6.047 million GSTR 3B returns were filed for the month of March, as on April 30, as against 8.712 million
Revised Estimates in the Budget pegged collection at Rs 4.44 trillion
The government had last reported a GST collection of Rs 7.17 trillion for the first eight months
In January, the collection slipped marginally to Rs 863 billion from Rs 867 billion in December
So far, 1 mn taxpayers have filed returns and another 2 mn have logged in and saved return forms
