Bandhwari landfill fire: NGT issues notice to environment ministry, others

The National Green Tribunal has sought a response from authorities, including the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), regarding the blaze in the Bandhwari landfill site in Gurugram last week. A fire broke out at the site along the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, days after a massive blaze erupted at the Ghazipur waste site in east Delhi. Waste collected by the civic bodies in Gurugram and Faridabad is dumped at the site. The NGT was hearing the matter where it had taken suo motu (on its own) cognisance of a newspaper report regarding the fire. A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that the report claimed the combustion of methane gas could have caused the blaze and that there was an alleged lack of precautionary measures. Rental yields from housing assets in Gurugram up 4.1%, says report

Rental yields in housing properties located at Gurugram and Noida have improved over the last few years and stood at 4.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent, respectively, during the latest March quarter, according to Anarock. Rental yield is the annual return on investment (ROI) investors earn from capital invested in a property. Real estate consultant Anarock report mentioned that there has been a steep rise in rental housing demand in the top cities. As a result, average rental values have soared and rental yields have been heading steadily north. The Anarock data showed that Bengaluru tops the list with a rental yield of 4.45 per cent during January-March 2024. Bengaluru's rental yield in pre-Covid 2019 stood at 3.6 per cent. Mumbai comes next among the top cities with a rental yield of 4.15 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 as against 3.5 per cent back in 2019. Gurugram has highest voter count in Haryana with over 2.5 million voters

Haryana's Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal Sunday said with more than 25 lakh voters, Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency has the highest voter count for a parliamentary constituency in the state. Gurugram has 25,46,916 voters, of which 13,47,521 are male, 11,99,317 are female and 78 are transgenders, whereas in Faridabad Lok Sabha constituency, the number of voters is 24,14,168, of which 13,10,206 are male, 11,03,844 female, and 118 transgenders. Polling for all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will take place on May 25 followed by counting on June 4. The notification for elections will be issued on April 29. The deadline for filing nominations is May 6. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on May 7, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until May 9. Gurugram cops nab 4 cyber criminals for defrauding people of over Rs 4.5 cr

The Gurugram cyber police have arrested four fraudsters for allegedly duping hundreds of people across the country of over Rs 4.5 crore, officials said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Siddhant Jain said four mobile phones and Rs 32000 in cash were recovered from the accused. He added that after examining these SIM cards and reviewing the data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), it was found that the fraud of about Rs 4.5 crore has been committed by these accused across the country. The accused have been identified as Nitish, resident of Chomu in Rajasthan; Monu from Bhonkarka village; Ravikant from Samastipur, Bihar; and Vikas Kumar from Vaishali district, Bihar, police said. "During the police interrogation, it was revealed that these accused committed fraud by making phone calls to people and cheating them in the name of transferring money online, investing in share market, offering online loans and getting money transferred by pretending to be experts,"

Man who opened fire outside Salman's house suspected to be from Gurugram

One of the two men seen in a CCTV footage opening fire outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's house in Mumbai is suspected to be from Gurugram, sources in the Delhi Police said on Sunday. According to a Bandra police official, an FIR has been registered against "unidentified persons" under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and the Arms Act. Realty firm Ashiana Housing on Saturday said it sold 224 luxury flats in Gurugram for Rs 440 crore within 15 minutes of its launch. The project is located at Sector 93 in Gurugram, Haryana. In a statement, the company said it has "sold out the entire phase 3 of its prestigious project, Ashiana Amarah within 15 minutes of launch". Realty major DLF has started construction of its new 26-27 lakh square feet shopping mall in Gurugram at a cost of around Rs 2,200 crore as part of its expansion plan amid rebound in retail consumption post-COVID pandemic. At present, DLF has a retail footprint of around 42 lakh square feet comprising nine properties, including malls and shopping centres, mainly across Delhi-NCR. Around 3.4 lakh square feet of retail portfolio is under DLF Ltd and the rest under the DLF Cyber City Developers Ltd (DCCDL), a joint venture between DLF and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC. Realty firm Godrej Properties Ltd (GPL) on Monday said it has sold over 1,050 homes worth over Rs 3,000 crore within three days of launch of its new project at Gurugram, in Haryana. This reflects strong sales momentum in the residential segment. Gurugram has seen a number of successful launches of housing projects in the last 18 months, where apartments got sold within a matter of few days. The project 'Godrej Zenith' is located in Sector 89, Gurugram. "This is Godrej Properties' most successful ever launch in terms of the value and volume of sales achieved," the company said in a regulatory filing. Housing sales in Gurugram down 12% during Jan-Mar; up 19% in Noida: Report

Housing sales in Gurugram fell 12 per cent year-on-year in January-March, while the demand for residential properties increased in Noida by 19 per cent, according to Anarock. Real estate consultant Anarock's data showed that housing sales in Gurugram's primary market (first sale) declined 12 per cent to 8,550 units in the January-March period this year from 9,750 units in the year-ago period. In contrast, Noida saw a 19 per cent increase in housing sales to 1,600 units during January-March this year from 1,350 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Commenting on the trend, Anarock Vice Chairman Santhosh Kumar said, "The demand continues to be strong in Gurugram. Still, sales dipped in the IT city due to a fall in new supply. A Gurugram court on Saturday granted bail to Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav in a case of assault against YouTuber Sagar Thakur alias Maxtern, said police. "The court heard the bail application and granted bail in the case. He will have to furnish a bail bond which would be submitted in the court," said his counsel, Advocate Himanshu Yadav. YouTuber Elvish Yadav gets bail in drugs case, to be taken to Gurugram jail

A Gautam Buddh Nagar court granted bail to controversial YouTuber Siddharth Yadav alias Elvish Yadav in a drugs case on Friday, six days after he was lodged in a jail here, his lawyers said. The jail authorities said they have received Yadav's release order but he would be handed over on Saturday to the custody of a court in Haryana's Gurugram, where he is to be produced in an assault case involving content creator Sagar Thakur alias Maxtern. The hearing in the Gurguram court is scheduled for March 27.
