Bengaluru-based quick commerce startup Dunzo has deferred salary payouts for its employees again, according to sources. An internal mail was shared with employees in which the cash-strapped logistics firm, previously backed by Google and Reliance Retail, has stated that the remaining salary for June and July would be paid with the August salary payout, in the first week of September, sources said. The company did not immediately comment on the development. Dunzo had previously delayed salaries of half of its 1000-strong workforce till July 20, impacting their top management the most. In April this year, the company had raised USD 75 million (around Rs 616 crore) and also fired about 400 employees in the first half of this year as part of cost-cutting measures.

Akasa Air on Thursday said it has one of the lowest attrition rates in the industry and expects to have around 3,500 employees by the end of this year, amid reports that scores of cabin crew have put in their papers. Currently, the carrier, which started flying in August last year, operates more than 900 flights every week. It also plans to start international operations by the end of 2023. "At Akasa, we have one of the lowest attrition rates and the fastest-growing network in the industry. Today, we have 3,000 employees and expect to grow to approximately 3,500 employees in 2023," it said in the statement. Helped by relaxations in labour laws, Maharashtra has upped its share in new job creation in the country to more than 30 per cent over the last five years, a senior official said on Thursday. The state was ahead in the implementations of relaxations like exempting units employing less than 20 people from Factories Act and also making the Shop and Establishment Act non-applicable for others, said Praveen Pardeshi, chief executive of Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (Mitra). "One-third of the jobs created in the last five years was in Maharashtra," the former bureaucrat said, attributing the claim to a recent survey. A tribal organisation of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has objected to the local administration's decision to allow Schedule Tribe (ST) people from other states to apply for government jobs in the archipelago, asserting that it goes against the norms. Chairman of the Tribal Council of Car Nicobar, Lionald Nicomed, claimed that as per the Scheduled Tribe Gazette notification of the Government of India, people belonging to only six local tribes are eligible for applying for recruitment under the ST category in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A senior Congress leader also said that allowing ST people from outside violates a Supreme Court order. Many candidates from outside have applied for government posts.
