Energy boost: ONGC, IOC, other oil PSUs to invest Rs 1.2 trn in FY25

ONGC, IOC and other oil PSUs will invest about Rs 1.2 lakh crore in the coming fiscal starting April 1 in oil and gas exploration, refineries, petrochemicals and laying pipelines to meet the needs of the world's fastest-growing energy consuming nation. The investment proposed in 2024-25 is 5 per cent higher than Rs 1.12 lakh crore spent by the state-owned oil firms in the current fiscal year that ends on March 31, according to Budget 2024-25 documents. Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has a planned capital spending of Rs 30,800 crore in the next financial year. This expenditure in finding new reserves of oil and gas and bringing to production discoveries it has already made, is slightly higher than Rs 30,500 crore capex in 2023-24 fiscal (April 2023 to March 2024). It is developing discoveries on both east and west coasts of the country. The top oil producer's overseas arm, ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) will invest 68 per cent more at Rs 5,580 crore in 2024-25 in oil and gas operations abro

ONGC makes two consecutive natural gas discoveries in Mahanadi basin block

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made two significant back-to-back natural gas discoveries in a Mahanadi basin deepwater block in the Bay of Bengal as its calculated game plan of venturing into high-risk deep water exploration starts yielding results. The firm made the discoveries in the block MN-DWHP-2018/1, which it had won in the third round of auction under the open acreage licensing policy in 2019, two sources with direct knowledge of the development said. Significantly, the discoveries have been made in an area, which previously was classified as a 'no-go' area because of national security interests. The first discovery, named Uktal, is in 714 metres of water depth and flowed more than 3 lakh cubic metres per day of gas during initial testing, they said, adding the other find is at a water depth of 1,110 metres. ONGC has notified the discoveries to upstream regulator Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) and is now doing pool size and commercial ...

ONGC starts oil production from delayed $5 billion deep-water project

State-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has started oil production from its much-delayed flagship deep-sea project in Krishna Godavari basin in Bay of Bengal, helping reverse years of decline in output, the company said. ONGC has started producing from the Cluster-2 project in KG-DWN-98/2 block and will slowly ramp up output. Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said "first oil production commences from complex and difficult" block. He did not indicate the current output but said "production is expected to be 45,000 barrels per day and over 10 million standard cubic metres per day of gas". Cluster-2 oil production should have begun by November 2021 but was delayed because of the Covid pandemic. ONGC has hired floating vessel Armada Sterling-V, owned 70 per cent by SPOG (Shapoorji Pallonji Oil & Gas) and 30 per cent by Malaysia's Bumi Armada, for producing oil from below seabed. The FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading vessel), Armada Sterling-V, has been .

ONGC seeks premium over govt price for coal seam gas in Jharkhand

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is seeking a premium over the government gas price for the gas it plans to produce from coal seams in Jharkhand. ONGC has sought bids from users for sale of 0.05 million standard cubic metres per day of gas from the North Karanpura coal-bed methane (CBM) block for three years. Users have been asked to quote a premium they are willing to pay over and above the monthly domestic natural gas price that the Oil Ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) notifies, the tender document showed. PPAC every month declares a price for the majority of domestically produced natural gas. This price is 10 per cent of the monthly average of the basket of crude oil that India imports. For the month of January, this price comes to USD 7.82 per million British thermal unit. This price in the ONGc tender has been marked as reserve gas price. While the government sets price for two-thirds of the gas produced in the country, CBM gas enjoys .

ONGC charges premium over Brent in oil supply deals with BPCL, HPCL

India's top oil and gas producer ONGC has signed term contracts with refiners to sell crude oil it produces from Mumbai offshore fields at a premium to international benchmark Brent, sources said. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has signed deals to sell about 4.5 million tonne of crude oil each to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). The oil has been priced at the prevailing Brent crude oil price plus 1 per cent, company sources said. Brent, the world's best known benchmark for the raw material that is converted into fuels like petrol and diesel in refineries, is trading at USD 80 per barrel. As per the pricing in the term contracts, ONGC would get USD 80 plus USD 0.8 for the oil it will sell to HPCL and BPCL. ONGC produces 13-14 million tonne per annum of crude oil from its fields in the Arabian Sea, off the Mumbai coast. In June last year, the government abolished a rule that said oil from blocks awarded prior to 1999 mus

Fishing net incident affects ONGC's KG field commissioning operations

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) first deepsea project in the KG basin was hit when a floating oil storage vessel got entangled with fishing nets, prompting the state-owned firm to seek help for the Indian Navy. Armada Sterling V floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which ONGC will use to produce oil from its KG-DWN-98/2 or KG-D5 block, got entangled with long nets, according to the company's social media posts. The company sought help from the Indian Navy whose divers helped remove the nets after a month-long operation. Commissioning operations resumed after that. "The operations halted as the FPSO Armada Sterling V was stranded due to large fishing nets getting entangled in its fuel-extracting mechanism. Timely action by @IndiannavyMedia / @indiannavy has completely restored operations enabling considerable savings to the exchequer," ONGC said in a Tweet. ONGC via LinkedIn expressed its "immense gratitude" to the Indian Navy "for extendin

ONGC to invest $2 bn in Mumbai offshore to raise oil, gas output

India's top oil and gas producer ONGC will invest over USD 2 billion in drilling a record 103 wells on its main gas-bearing asset in the Arabia Sea as it pivots a turnaround plan that will add 100 million tonnes to production, a company official said. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has three main assets off the west coast - Mumbai High, Heera and Neelam, and Bassein and Satellite, which contributed the bulk of 21.7 million tonnes of oil and 21.68 billion cubic metres of gas it produced in 2021-22. "We have released a record 103 locations for drilling of wells on the Bassein and Satellite (B&S) assets over the next 2-3 years," ONGC Director (Offshore) Pankaj Kumar said.
