Centre asks Prasar Bharati to compose song on 'Swachh Bharat'

Centre has asked Prasar Bharati to compose a special melody on 'Swachh Bharat Mission' to be aired by national broadcaster, AIR, as part of government's effort to make the flagship programme a 'people's movement'. In a letter to Prasar Bharati, the Urban Development Ministry has asked it to play the "special musical composition" on its channels. "...I would like to request your kind intervention in preparing a special musical composition by the Vadya Vrind Orchestra, around Swachh Bharat Mission, which may be played on your channels for popularising SBM among citizens," Joint Secretary in the UD ministry and Mission Director (SBM) Praveen Prakash said in a letter to Prasar Bharati CEO Jawahar Sircar. Swachh Bharat cess funding Modi advertisements: Digvijay

Taking a dig at the Swachh Bharat cess, Congress leader Digvijay Singh today alleged that the money collected through the campaign is only going into publishing advertisements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "What is the basic function of a municipal corporation? Cleanliness. Cleanliness should be there. Narendra Modi talks about 'Swachh Bharat'. 'Swachh Bharat' tax is also collected. Swachh survey will be extended to 500 cities: Naidu

Centre is taking additional measures to "strengthen the country's journey" towards a "clean India" and the Swachh survey will be extended to 500 cities, Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu said today. "The government is taking additional policy and institutional measures which will strengthen the country's journey towards a Swachh India. The Swachh survey is going to be extended to 500 cities, which have population over one lakh," he said. The Union Urban Development Minister said this at an event here to felicitate leaders and officers of Alappuzha (Kerala), Panaji (Goa) and Mysuru (Karnataka) municipalities with Clean City Awards given by environmental NGO, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) following its survey. Centre to extend Swachh survey to 500 cities

Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday asserted that the Swachh survey will be extended to 500 cities having population of over one lakh.Felicitating leaders and officers of municipalities with Clean City Awards at a function here, Naidu said that the government is taking additional policy and institutional measures to strengthen the country's journey towards a Swachh India.He further said that states, cities, panchayats should give awards so that this survey turns into a movement.The minister also insisted that it is the political will and administrative skill, which is required for clean India.The first-ever cleanliness ranking of cities under Swachh Bharat Mission was released in February this year.Mysuru had emerged as the cleanest city among all million plus and capital cities while Dhanbad in Jharkhand has been ranked the worst.
