Hockey World Cup 2018: Preparations commence in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Nov 18 (ANI): The 14th edition of Hockey World Cup will commence in Bhubaneswar from November 28. Around 16 teams will participate in the tournament. Preparations for the World Cup began in Bhubaneswar at Kalinga Stadium. Indian hockey team hit the turf to gear up for the World Cup. "We are practicing hard to improve everyday for the World Cup and we are assessing the ground", said Indian hockey player Chinglensana Singh.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia ranked world number one in 65 kg category

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia was ranked world number one in the 65 kg weight category, according to the ranking chart released by United World Wrestling (UWW). Punia became first Indian to achieve this feat. Punia won five medals this season, including Common Wealth Games and Asian Games gold and a silver at the World Championships. The 24-year-old was placed atop the ranking table with 96 points in the UWW list. Cuban Alejandro Enrique Vlades Tobier is placed second with 66 points.

Ahead of India vs West Indies 2nd T20I, Lucknow cricket stadium renamed

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 06 (ANI): Ahead of the 2nd T20I cricket match to be played between India and West Indies, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday renamed the 'Ekana International Cricket Stadium' as 'Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium'. UP Governor Ram Naik has approved the government proposal to this effect. Orders were issued for the change of name by Principal Secretary (Housing) Nitin Ramesh Gokaran late on Monday. The stadium is going to host its first international cricket match today.

Mary Kom named as the brand ambassador of 10th AIBA Women World Championship

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): Five-time world champion Mary Kom has been named as the brand ambassador of the upcoming 10th edition of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Women World Championship. The Olympics bronze-medalist, who will be eyeing sixth World Championship title and second gold at home since 2006 during the prestigious tournament, expressed delight over the same and assured that she would give her best shot. China clinches Asia U-18 Girls Seven Rugby Championship

State Chess Championship held in Srinagar ahead of Nationals

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct 27 (ANI): All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association in collaboration with JandK State Sports Council has organised State Chess Championship at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar. The first top seven players in senior category from Kashmir province and Jammu province will be selected for the upcoming State Chess Championship 2018, in which first top eight players will be selected on 'Round Robin' basis and will represent JandK State for National 'A ' chess championship 2018 scheduled to be held at Jammu in December 2018. Over 150 international players, including many grand masters and International masters, will vie for the top honors in the upcoming Senior National Chess Championship-2018 to be hosted by JandK for the first time from December 8 to 18. Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Oct 27 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Asia Rugby Sevens U18 Girls Championship at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday. It is the first time that Rugby championship of international level is being held in India.
