Youth Olympics: Suraj Panwar bags silver in Men's 5000m race walk

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): Indian athlete Suraj Panwar won a silver medal in Men's 5000m Race Walk event at the ongoing third edition of the Youth Olympic Games. The 17-year-old finished second on the podium with a clock timing of 20:35.87 and 20:23.30 in two stages of the competition The medal was India's first in the athletics category of the current edition of the Youth Olympics. The total medal tally of India at the ongoing prestigious tournament now stands at eleven-3 gold and 8 silver.

Junior men's hockey team receives warm welcome in Delhi after winning silver

New Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): The junior men's hockey team of India arrived in New Delhi after it won a silver medal at 8th Sultan of Johor Cup 2018 held in Malaysia. They were welcomed at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The team scored 19 goals in the six matches the team played and gave a tough competition to the opponent. One of the players said, "We had new boys with less experience otherwise we could have won gold. Nevertheless we gave a tough fight to the opponent".

India vs West Indies: Skipper Kohli lauds Prithvi Shaw for winning man of series

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (ANI): Indian cricket team captain applauded Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw for winning man of the series in his maiden Test series against West Indies today. "Getting Man of the Series in your first series regardless of where you play and how you play is an outstanding achievement", said Virat Kohli. India won the 10th consecutive Test match at home with this victory. Prithvi Shaw scored consistently in the series with a debut 100 and a half century. India won the last Test easily by 10 wickets with Indian pacer Umesh Yadav's 10 wickets in the match.

Asian Para Games 2018: Gold medalist Sandeep Chaudhary receives grand welcome

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Indian Para Athlete Sandeep Chaudhary, who clinched gold medal at the Para Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia, received a grand welcome at Indira Gandhi International Airport today. Chaudhary won gold in Javelin throw in F42-44/61-64 category. Family and friends in large numbers arrived at the airport to celebrate his feat in the Asian Games. This is the biggest achievement for me as well as for my country. I'm very happy. Federation supported me completely," said Sandeep.

Allegations made by Vinta Nanda is to defame his reputation: Alok Nath's lawyer

Mumbai, Oct 10 (ANI): After allegations surfaced against actor Alok Nath of sexual harassment during #MeToo movement by writer-producer Vinta Nanda, his lawyer Ashok Saraogi claimed that allegations made by Vinta Nanda is to defame Nath's reputation. "Easy to make allegations of an incident alleged to have taken place 19 yrs back. This shows that the allegations are false. I believe all of this has been done to defame his reputation", said Saraogi. "We are going to take action against her for the unnecessary defamatory statements issued by her (write-producer Vinta Nanda) and probably within a day or two we'll file such proceedings", he added.

Rajkot (Gujarat), Oct 05 (ANI): Team India shined bright in the first innings by putting a mammoth total of 649 on boards in Rajkot against West Indies in the opening match. Three centuries were scored by the Indian batsmen including Ravindra Jadeja at his home ground. Jadeja said that he is playing Test matches since last 10 years and has been a consistent performer for India. "Team management chooses players according to opposition and balancing the team by number of right or left handed batsmen in the team", said Jadeja. 4th Asian Pencak Silat Championship concludes in Srinagar

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct 04 (ANI): The 4th Asian Pencak Silat Championship concluded in Srinagar on Thursday. The purpose of this championship was to promote the Pencak Silat sports in Jammu and Kashmir, and provide proper platform to the youth of Valley in the field of sports. Around 250 players and officials from 10 countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines and India participated in the 3-day event. The championship was organised for the first time ever in Jammu and kashmir by Indian Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Sports Authority of India and Jammu and kashmir State Sports Council. Locals and participants, both, were enthusiastic as they got the chance to be a part of the international championship.

Arjuna awardee athlete Sudha Singh urges UP Govt for job in sports department

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 03 (ANI): Arjuna awardee athlete and Asian Games silver medalist Sudha Singh urged the Uttar Pradesh Government to provide the job in the sports department. "I didn't ask him (CM Yogi) for a job. He himself offered me position of Deputy SP. Then I said that according to my medals, I want to join as Deputy Director in sports dept. He agreed. I've faith in him. I'm at a gazetted post in railway dept in Mumbai", said Sudha Singh. "I wanted to contribute to sports and that's why I wanted to work in sports department in UP. If there is even a single certificate missing, I'll apologise for demanding this job", she added. In August, Sudha accepted the job offered by Yogi Government.
