Meta has agreed to share child sexual abuse material (CSAM) cases directly with Indian law enforcement agencies, instead of routing them through the US-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The move follows meetings between Meta executives and Indian government officials over child safety concerns. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had earlier summoned Meta executives after reports of Instagram ads allegedly promoting CSAM. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and National Human Rights Commission have also launched probes into the allegations.
